What is the Summer Youth Internship Program?

Going into its 11th year of operation, the Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP) continues to serve our community. The Children’s Trust, Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), CareerSource South Florida, EdFed, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools Foundation collaborate with a single intent in mind: to provide meaningful, paid summer internship opportunities for youth across Miami-Dade County.

The unique structure of this high-quality summer internship program includes parent, student and employer orientations conducted virtually, online pre-internship training for interns, student interns assigned to certified Miami-Dade County Public Schools teachers, a curriculum consisting of weekly assignments, an online interface, and Miami.GetMyInterns.org for enrollment and matching of student interns and employers.

You can make a difference in a student’s life by allowing them to learn and grow with your company. The best part? There is no cost to you! Our students are paid through a grant from our generous sponsors, and they come with their own accident insurance, so there’s no need to worry about workman’s comp.

– More than 9,700 students completed or participated in SYIP pre-internship readiness coursework, demonstrating strong interest and engagement across the community.

– 3,545 students secured internship placements this summer, continuing one of the largest youth internship initiatives in the nation.

– SYIP has now served more than 28,000 students since its inception in 2015.

– Participation from charter school students increased significantly, growing from 160 students in 2025 to 344 students in 2026, expanding access to work-based learning opportunities.

– Participation in dual enrollment (610 students) represented a 26% increase over the previous year.

– The program continues to support diverse learners, including students with exceptional education needs, gifted students, and those from a variety of academic and career pathways.

These achievements would not be possible without the dedication of our funding partners, employers, community organizations, educators, and champions who work together to create meaningful opportunities for our youth.
